Brave Truth® is one of the innovative tools Bridgeworks uses when our clients want to transform the team culture into a trust culture. It is a proven way to remove some common blockers of success. Lack of trust is often what stops teams from achieving the desired level of success.
You like me know dysfunctional teams that don’t work collaboratively; groups and individuals who struggle to understand and support each other, and therefore fail.
There are many situations where conflict can fester and get in the way of high performance. Just think of the challenges of
- blending 2 entities after a merger
- bringing people together, including new recruits, when they work remotely
- getting multi departmental project teams to engage and work together
- adapting to a major change
An Original Discovery Process
Brave Truth® uses a board game format to help participants become aware of our unconscious biases and experience a different level of trust and communication. The process is designed to sharing personal information in a safe, non-judgmental environment.
(example of a couple of cards from the game)
As the game progresses, participants find their common ground as they focus on similarities instead of differences.
At the end, the debrief of the game is the start of transferring the participants’ new awareness and agreement of trust back to their workplace.
How Bridgeworks Use Brave Truth®
The game provides a fast way to create awareness, engagement, ownership and buy-in. The discovery and learning process being very fast, we can to use the tool in a variety of ways according the our clients needs and operational constraints.
And it works well in small and large groups, face to face or online.
When it is hard to bring people together without excessively disrupting the business operations, we run “bite-size” fast paced short sessions.
We can also use this “trust experience” as one element of a broader culture transformation program.
Yes, Trust Does Lead To Fruitful Dialogues
Playing this board games helps generate a ‘safe’ environment that allows people to feel comfortable to engage in the most open and honest conversations. For many it is an eye-opening experience. Recent participant feedback shows that
- they find the experience engaging, and that it makes them feel safe and valued
- groups have been able to communicate better, engaging in fruitful dialogues at levels not reached before.
And what greater proof than its impact in the very difficult circumstances where the tool was developed in South Africa at the end of apartheid! Imagine previously fighting parties having to cooperate with each other in peace! Building trust and starting positive conversations was both a must and a big ask. The game was very useful in bringing to light the hidden prejudices and judgements that were undermining peace.
As players find was that they had a lot more in common than they thought, they are able to start having open, honest discussions.
Bridgeworks is licensed to use Brave Truth® a game developed by Geraldine Coy, an expert in the field of emotional intelligence
