Lessons from the French
Bonjour!

For the next couple of months our Bridgeworks office will be run from the hinterland of the French Riviera.

You ask, "Why (French Riviera)?". I say, "Why not?!"

That's the first lesson we have learnt from the French. Some of you say "Wouldn't it be great to have a 2-3 hour lunch?". The French say "Pourquoi pas?" (Why not?). They may not be the most productive nation in the world, but they know and have a great work-life balance.

Mealtimes are sacred to the French - the longer you take to eat, the more courses, the better. That means more time to socialise, debate, discuss & spend quality time with each other.

I know for a FACT that some of you eat lunch at your computer - "Ce n'est pas bon!" (That is not good!). 2-3 months here in the French Riviera may sort that out.

Let me know and I'll see what I can do!

LESSON #2: The French do everything in style.

The French dress up at the best of times. I went to the local equivalent to Bunnings called "Briconaute" and in the plumbing section, there was a woman wearing stillettos as part of her 'Hardware' uniform.

oh la la!

Now, I don't suggest for one minute that you start wearing stillettos (especially the blokes!) but the French have style - especially when it comes to creating a captivating environment. They love a positive ambience, they love to entertain, they love to engage you.

Do you create an environment that people enjoy being a part of? One that gets the best out of others?

LESSON #3: We're all in it together

The French are very communal.

It's great to have been part of village life. Everything revolves around the town square where there is always community activity. They know how to share and have fun together.

If it's not a market or a performance of some description, it will be the regular game of Boules. Lots of laughs, lots of conversation & plenty of good wine shared around.

"Au revoir et continuez a apprendre!"

Leadership is a fickle topic.
Few really understand it and how to bring it to life. Reading about it is one thing, but realizing it in your workplace is very different.

Considering the mintage of books, information and seminars, managers still struggle with discovering how best to lead and be true to themselves.
"Leadership Now" is a powerful 4 day experiential learning process developed over 20 years working with the best leaders in industry.
  • What do people really say about me at the watercooler?
  • How effective do I lead others?
  • Do people trust me? respect me?
  • If I didn't have a title would they still follow me?
  • How do I build trust? How should I deal with difficult relationships?
You may be able to relate to some of the above. If you are passionate about building your leadership capability - you should consider enrolling in Leadership Now.

This unique program takes you into a distraction-free environment where you will be exposed to many 'mirrors'. The unique "How Others See Me" feedback helps you get a grip on where your leadership is and where you need to take it.
